Sri Lanka’s rupee opened weaker at 293.75/294.75 to the US dollar in the spot market on Monday, down from 293.50/294.00 on Friday. Meanwhile, bond yields were observed to have decreased, dealers reported.
A bond maturing on 15.09.2027 was quoted at 9.55/75 percent, lower than 9.70/85 percent. Similarly, a bond maturing on 15.02.2028 was quoted at 10.00/05 percent, down from 10.05/20 percent. A bond maturing on 15.09.2029 remained stable at 10.65/75 percent.
The central bank also announced an auction of 120,000 million rupees of treasury bills scheduled for Tuesday.
In the equities market, the All Share Price Index rose by 0.52 percent, or 77.20 points, to 14,887. The more liquid S&P SL20 gained 0.76 percent, or 33.65 points, to reach 4,454. The turnover was recorded at 253 million rupees.
