Sri Lanka Showcases Country Pavilion at Hotel Asia Exhibition in Maldives from May 13 to 15

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in partnership with the Sri Lanka High Commission in Male, Maldives, and the Sri Lanka – Maldives Business Council (SLMBC), is set to facilitate the participation of 19 exporters, including 15 SME entrepreneurs, in the upcoming ‘Hotel Asia Exhibition & International Culinary Challenge 2024’. Scheduled from May 13 to 15 at the Dharubaaruge Exhibition Hall in Male, Maldives, this event stands as the country’s largest annual food and hospitality showcase, attracting stakeholders from across the tourism sector.

With Maldives heavily reliant on imports to meet its domestic needs, the market presents significant opportunities for Sri Lankan products. In 2023 alone, imports to Maldives surged to around US $3.47 billion, reflecting the country’s growing demand for various commodities, including food items. Sri Lanka’s exports to Maldives totaled US $112.54 million in 2023, with products such as insulated wires, sugar confectionery, cereals, and fruits making significant contributions.

The exhibition serves as a crucial platform for Sri Lankan exporters to showcase their products and services to key players in the Maldivian tourism industry, including resorts, hotels, and restaurants. Moreover, it offers invaluable networking opportunities for participants to explore market trends, forge new partnerships, and strengthen existing connections. Through this initiative, exporters aim to expand their market share, introduce new products, and enhance the visibility of Sri Lankan brands in the Maldives market.
