The Export Development Board (EDB) recently organised a networking session targeting new entrants and potential investors in Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports. The program aimed to equip emerging exporters with practical knowledge, market insights, and opportunities to connect with established industry stakeholders.
Wichy Plantation Ltd.’s Cluster Executive Director, Indika Perera, shared his experience on “Real-life examples of entering and succeeding in challenging markets,” helping participants understand how to navigate the complexities of Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports in competitive global markets.
Coconut Development Authority Market Development Research Officer, Chathuranga Wickramarathna, provided guidance on exporter registration procedures and regulatory compliance, essential for anyone participating in Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports. Compliance with local and international standards is crucial for smooth market access and long-term business success.
Adrian Gabriel, Senior Tea Taster and General Manager (Tea) at Akbar Brothers Ltd., presented practical strategies under the topic “Building and maintaining relationships with foreign buyers.” These strategies highlighted how exporters can establish and sustain long-term international partnerships critical to growing Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports.
Tishan De Silva, Assistant Director of the Sri Lanka Tea Board Promotion Division, emphasized new market opportunities and the importance of branding for Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports under his topic “Emerging markets for Ceylon Tea and leveraging the logo.” Proper brand positioning can differentiate Sri Lankan products in global markets and increase export potential.
Suranjith Swaris, UK Sri Lanka Country Director of Inextricable Group, spoke on “Brand differentiation and market differentiation strategies in competitive global markets,” offering actionable insights for exporters to enhance competitiveness in Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports.
The program brought together approximately 100 small and medium-scale exporters, offering them a platform to interact with industry leaders, gain market intelligence, and explore business opportunities. The event, organized by the Trade Information and Trade Facilitation Division, reinforces the EDB’s commitment to supporting growth in Sri Lanka tea and coconut exports.
