Sri Lankan Rupee Strengthens to 298.50/60 Against US Dollar; Bond Yields Edge Down

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stronger on Friday at 298.50/60 against the US dollar, improving from the previous day’s close of 298.95/299.05, according to dealers. Bond yields showed a slight decrease, while the stock market saw a positive opening.

In the secondary market, treasury bond yields were mixed:

  • A bond maturing on December 15, 2026, was quoted at 11.10/20 percent, slightly up from 11.05/20 percent.
  • A bond maturing on December 15, 2028, was quoted at 12.85/95 percent, down from 12.95/13.05 percent.
  • A bond maturing on June 15, 2029, was quoted at 12.95/13.00 percent, down from 13.00/10 percent.

In the equities market, Colombo’s All Share Price Index (ASPI) opened 11.21 points higher at 11,542, while the S&P SL20, which tracks more liquid stocks, increased by 0.46 percent or 15.37 points to 3,324. The market turnover stood at Rs. 21 million.
