Port City Colombo makes significant progress in capturing key investments

Port City Colombo, a dynamic Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and emerging regional financial center, is making significant strides in attracting key investments as it prepares to engage prospective investors from South Asia, APAC, and the Middle East by the end of 2024.

Focusing on high-value Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs), Port City Colombo has welcomed around forty-one companies as Authorised Persons (APs) approved by the Colombo Port City Economic Commission. Notably, 52% of the Marina District, featuring South Asia’s premier luxury yacht marina and a 5-star hotel, has garnered substantial investment interest.

Leading international and local corporate entities such as Asiri Port City Hospital (Private) Limited, TIQRI, CODEGEN INNOVATIONS, 99x Technology AS, IVIVAPTE Ltd, Echelon Trade (Pvt) Ltd, and Port City BPO (Pvt) Ltd have been designated as Businesses of Strategic Importance, further boosting Port City Colombo’s appeal.

The project has a strong pipeline with over twenty prospective investors poised to join as Authorised Persons, reflecting growing confidence in Port City Colombo as a competitive regional investment hub.

Situated within the Colombo Port City SEZ, Port City Colombo offers a secure financial environment conducive to global investment in Sri Lanka, shielded from domestic economic challenges.

This visionary investment destination boasts a vibrant commercial ecosystem and a well-planned city, facilitating diverse business operations with transactions in 16 international currencies, no capital or exchange controls, 100% foreign ownership, and attractive fiscal incentives extending over 25 years.

Investors can choose between land development investments (residential and commercial property) and business setup opportunities in IT/ITes, financial services, hospitality/tourism, logistics, and more. Prospective commercial entities must qualify as Authorised Persons as per the Colombo Port City Economic Commission’s guidelines to operate within the SEZ.

As Port City Colombo continues its robust AP and BSI drive, it aims to position Sri Lanka as a premier global investment destination, drawing inspiration from successful international models like Dubai and Singapore.
