HNB-Nucleus Software celebrate 5 years of partnership with FinnAxia driving digital banking

The partnership, celebrated at a gala event held at ITC Ratnadipa in Colombo, reflects the success of a long-term strategy aimed at modernising HNB’s corporate banking ecosystem while delivering faster, more efficient and customer-centric transaction banking services.

Since selecting Nucleus Software’s flagship FinnAxia platform in 2021, HNB has significantly enhanced its corporate banking capabilities by digitising a wide range of banking services. The platform supports vendor payments, payroll processing, bill payments, receivables management, API banking, host-to-host connectivity and cross-border transactions, enabling businesses to manage financial operations through a single digital platform.

FinnAxia also provides customers with comprehensive access to management information systems (MIS), including CASA statements, loan details and term deposit information. These capabilities have strengthened operational efficiency while improving customer visibility across multiple banking services.

According to HNB, the platform has enabled the bank to respond more effectively to changing customer expectations by accelerating service delivery and improving operational agility. The digital transformation has also supported the continued expansion of the bank’s corporate banking business as demand for digital financial solutions continues to grow.

Today, more than 3,000 users interact with the FinnAxia platform daily, demonstrating its strong adoption among HNB’s corporate customer base and reinforcing its reliability in supporting mission-critical banking operations.

The platform enables straight-through processing across LankaPay payment networks, including CEFT, SLIPS and RTGS, while also facilitating LPOPP electronic bill payments for ASYCUDA, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). With the addition of ETF services, HNB now offers corporate customers a comprehensive suite of digital transaction banking solutions under one integrated platform, providing greater convenience, flexibility and efficiency.

HNB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Damith Pallewatte said the collaboration has strengthened the bank’s leadership position in Sri Lanka’s transaction banking sector over the past five years.

He noted that FinnAxia has enabled HNB to deliver a modern digital-first banking experience while enhancing operational agility, supporting business growth and driving continuous innovation. He added that the bank remains committed to investing in technologies that create long-term value for customers and contribute to the wider economy as digital banking continues to evolve.

Nucleus Software Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Parag Bhise said the company is proud to celebrate the milestone alongside HNB, describing the partnership as a reflection of a shared vision, strong execution and a commitment to delivering meaningful customer outcomes.

He said HNB has demonstrated how the combination of advanced technology, strong leadership and organisational agility can successfully transform digital banking, adding that Nucleus Software looks forward to supporting the bank’s next phase of innovation and growth.

The partnership has also received industry recognition. The FinnAxia implementation earned the Silver Award for Best Managed Project at the Project Management Excellence Awards 2023, acknowledging the complexity, scale and successful execution of the digital transformation initiative.

The anniversary celebration brought together senior executives from both organisations to reflect on five years of collaboration built on trust, innovation and shared objectives. Looking ahead, HNB and Nucleus Software reaffirmed their commitment to further advancing transaction banking by focusing on customer-centric innovation, operational excellence, agility and sustainable growth.

As Sri Lanka’s banking sector continues to embrace digital transformation, the successful implementation of FinnAxia demonstrates how strategic technology partnerships can help financial institutions improve customer experience, streamline operations and strengthen competitiveness in an increasingly digital economy.
