Indika De Zoysa Takes Helm of FITIS for 2024/2025 Term

FITIS recently held its Annual General Meeting for 2024 at the Hilton Colombo Residencies, where Indika De Zoysa was reappointed as Chairman for a second term. De Zoysa emphasized FITIS’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s National Digital Economy Strategy – 2030, noting the organization’s role in formulating proposals for this strategy through expert committees. He called on all FITIS members to collaborate in enhancing Sri Lanka’s ICT sector, with a target of exceeding a USD 15 billion contribution to the national economy.

The Presidents of FITIS Chapters highlighted the organization’s activities and achievements over the past year. FITIS is engaged in various strategic areas for developing the digital economy, focusing on capacity building, introducing digital technologies to SMEs, organizing regional events to popularize ICT, and addressing industry challenges through discussions with government authorities. Notable projects include assistance to SMEs through the DigiGo project and support for startups in accessing investors and markets.

Over the past two decades, FITIS has been instrumental in promoting ICT among schoolchildren through initiatives like ‘Young Computer Scientist,’ with winning projects submitted to international competitions. Collaboration with partners such as the Ministry of Education and University of Colombo School of Computing strengthens these efforts. FITIS also hosts annual events to introduce new technologies, recognize industry contributions, and works closely with government bodies like the Export Development Board and Industrial Development Board to create business opportunities and expand the ICT sector.
