The SLIC Life CSR initiative has been recognised at the Sri Lanka Leadership Awards 2025 for its long-standing contribution to education and community development. SLIC Life CSR initiative honoured for elevating education in Sri Lanka
The SLIC Life CSR program earned national distinction after receiving the award for “Support and Improvement in Quality of Education” at the Sri Lanka Leadership Awards 2025. Organised by CMO Asia and held at the Taj Samudra in Colombo, the ceremony celebrated organisations that demonstrate exemplary leadership and social responsibility. SLIC Life Manager Corporate and Marketing Communications Amali Gomez and Brand Manager Ruchira Edirisinghe accepted the honour on behalf of the company.
This achievement reaffirms the long-term commitment of the SLIC Life CSR framework, which continues to focus on education as a key pillar of its national outreach. Guided by the promise “Like a Father, Like a Mother,” the insurer has consistently invested in community wellbeing while working to preserve Sri Lankan culture for the future. Education remains central to these efforts, with initiatives designed to empower children, support teachers and enhance learning environments across the country.
Over the years, the SLIC Life CSR platform has positively impacted thousands of beneficiaries by improving access to quality education. A cornerstone of this programme is Pasal Piriyatha Surakimu, a nationwide school development initiative launched in 2007 to strengthen under-resourced schools. The programme has supported more than 3,365 schools island-wide by improving classrooms, upgrading infrastructure, repairing furniture, donating books and providing essential facilities such as clean drinking water. Its latest phase, completed in May 2025, revitalised 100 schools simultaneously with the support of the company’s regional and branch teams.
In addition to its extensive school development work, the SLIC Life CSR strategy continues to promote academic excellence through the Suba Pathum Scholarship Program. Introduced in 2014, this scholarship scheme has rewarded more than 2,200 high-performing students at national examinations, distributing financial assistance worth over Rs. 240 million. In 2025 alone, 225 students who excelled at the Grade 5 Scholarship, GCE Ordinary Level and GCE Advanced Level examinations received support to advance their education with greater confidence.
The recognition at the Sri Lanka Leadership Awards underscores the significant and sustained impact of the SLIC Life CSR approach. Through its commitment to strengthening education, developing communities and empowering youth, SLIC Life continues to position itself as a trusted partner in shaping a stronger and more inclusive future for Sri Lanka.
