Sri Lanka Rupee Strengthens to 290.25/30 Against Dollar, Bonds Steady

Sri Lanka’s rupee opened stronger at 290.25/30 to the US dollar on Wednesday, improving from 290.30/35 recorded on Tuesday, according to market dealers. Meanwhile, government bond yields remained steady across key maturities.

A bond maturing on 15 October 2027 was quoted at 9.90/10.00 percent, unchanged from the previous day’s range of 9.90/10.05 percent.

The bond maturing on 15 February 2028 was quoted at 10.35/45 percent, while a bond maturing on 15 September 2029 was quoted at 10.85/92 percent, slightly narrowing from the prior day’s range of 10.80/95 percent.

The central bank’s auction for Rs. 206 billion in Treasury bills was underway, with an additional Treasury bond auction for Rs. 132.5 billion scheduled for Thursday.

On the stock exchange, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) increased by 0.28 percent, gaining 39.19 points to reach 13,814.

The more liquid S&P SL20 index climbed by 0.43 percent, or 17.65 points, to stand at 4,131.

Market turnover was reported at 792 million rupees.
