Gold purity remains one of the main factors determining the market value of jewellery and investment gold. 24 Carat gold has a higher purity than 22 Carat and 21 Carat gold, resulting in a higher price per gram. In jewellery markets, however, 22 Carat gold remains widely relevant because of its balance between purity and durability.

For consumers, changes in the Gold Price can directly affect the cost of purchasing jewellery, particularly when buying items based on weight. A relatively small movement in the price per gram can translate into a larger difference when purchasing an 8-gram unit or heavier jewellery pieces.

The domestic gold market is also influenced by international gold prices, movements in the US dollar, global investor demand and local currency conditions. As a result, Sri Lankan gold rates can change as international and domestic financial market conditions develop.

The latest rates provide a snapshot of the market on 11 August and should be viewed as indicative prices. Actual jewellery prices may differ depending on the retailer, making charges, workmanship costs, taxes and other applicable charges.

With gold continuing to attract attention as a store of value, consumers and investors are likely to keep monitoring daily price movements. The latest Gold Price figures underline the relatively high value of the precious metal in Sri Lanka, particularly for the widely traded 22 Carat and 24 Carat categories.
